Student Trips

Here at Hidden Dagger Adventures, we love teaming up with high schools and universities to offer out-of-the-classroom adventures to their students! We have been running the popular ‘Hiking in the Unspoiled Beauty of Big Bend’ program for Road Scholar since 2019, and we are excited to open up a similar type of trip to student groups! We offer several multi-day options and are able to accomodate up to 20 students.

Our student trips offer unique adventures where participants are able to delve deeper into the rugged, wild territory of West Texas as they sleep under the stars at night and wake up to explore mountain top peaks, slot canyons, hot springs, Native American campsites and more.

Rio Grande River & Big bend national park

Our experienced and knowledgable guides will lead students on the Rio Grande River through Boquillas Canyon, located in Big Bend National Park - a perfect combination of mountains, desert, and river. All along the way, students will have the opportunity to experience and learn the ways of remote desert life, human history, geology, culture, and wildlife of the area.

problem solving & leadership training

Our trips are designed for students to problem solve and consider situations from different perspectives. We love guiding our groups through unique challenges that only working in the outdoors can bring. When you’re on the river, quick decision-making is constant, creating community is key, and students will work together to become both great leaders and followers.

our guides

The founder of Hidden Dagger Adventures, Tara, has years of experience leading top-notch adventure trips and has worked for various companies in the outdoor field, including Outward Bound, California. Tara has a vast knowledge of West Texas and is uniquely skilled at guiding folks of any age through outdoor challenges.

Joe completed his Wilderness EMT certification from NOLS in 2018. He worked as an EMT in Terlingua, Texas, a firefighter in Fairbanks, Alaska, and is now the Safety Director here at Hidden Dagger. Joe is exceptional at meeting students where they are, and helping to build their confidence in the outdoors.

SAFETY IS OUR TOP PRIORITY

At Hidden Dagger Adventures, we are trained to assess and mitigate risk on the trips that we lead. As risk managers, we identify hazards and approach our activities based on each group’s capabilities. All of our guides are CPR certified as well as Wilderness First Responders (an 80-hour wilderness medicine training that must be renewed every 2-3 years).
